It’s a monumental moment for our community.

“I don’t think most people fully appreciate how transforming the Academic Affiliation will be for the entire region. We’re attracting high quality doctors and innovative researchers. We can retain medical students and keep them here in the community. It’s going to make this a better place for future generations.”

Developing an Academic Medical Center

A primary goal of the Academic Affiliation is to create a premier academic medical center at ProMedica Toledo and Toledo Children’s Hospitals where outstanding medical education, clinical research and patient care can come together to thrive in northwest Ohio.

Developing an academic medical center right here in Toledo is a critical and essential step in ensuring that patients from near and far have access to the highest quality providers, specialized services and advanced treatments to care for the spectrum of healthcare needs – from everyday concerns to the most complex conditions.

As a clinician and life-long Toledo resident, Kent Bishop, MD, understands and appreciates the impact that cultivating a world-class academic medical center will have on our region.

“The Academic Affiliation is working to create an environment where all providers – physicians, fellows, residents, students – have the opportunity to provide the very best, most sophisticated care for their patients, “ he says. “This will have a tremendous effect on our ability to raise the bar in terms of patient care quality, safety and outcomes.”

To accomplish this goal, work is already under way to prepare ProMedica Toledo and Toledo Children’s Hospitals for the future. The Generations of Care Project, the largest construction effort of its kind in ProMedica’s history, is laying the foundation for this evolution by building a 13-story, 302-bed patient care tower that will provide the facilities necessary to accommodate expanded services/programs and clinical training capabilities.
